about

In Our Shadow shares a mixture of social experiences between 2013 and 2016. The joys and sorrows of different relationships are all represented in alternative rock, singer-songwriter, and folk styles. When I write, I enjoy finding one aspect of a situation, or one emotion from a relationship and breaking it down to multiple levels. The more ways I can describe it and create a representation of it, the more ways people can enter in, understand, and place themselves in it. It was never an intention to create such a relationship-based concept album, but In Our Shadow fits that bill.

Track Name: American Man
Some things can be misunderstood
I miss doing something I should
But I try hard again to please your pretty hand
Oh please let me be your American man

All I've got it's shown, my fear is written on my skin and bone
But if you can wipe the scars away, I'll show you reasons for you to stay

You'll see the fear take flight now sit back and enjoy the quiet
I'll wipe the dirt off my sleeve and show you new sides of me, oh

I know there's more to fix in me
A whole tool shed won't work you see
But I try hard again so you won't call it quits
Oh please let me prove that I'm better than this

All I've got it's shown, my fear is written on my skin and bone
So if you can wipe the scars away, I'll show you reasons for you to stay

You'll see the fear take flight now sit back and enjoy the quiet
I'll wipe the dirt off my sleeve and show you new sides of me, oh

You'll see the fear take flight now sit back and enjoy the quiet
I'll wipe the dirt off my sleeve and show you new sides of me, oh
You'll see the fear take flight now sit back and enjoy the quiet
I'll wipe the dirt off my sleeve and show you new sides of me, oh

Some things can be misunderstood
I miss doing something I should
But I try hard again to please your pretty hand
Oh please let me be your American man

Oh please let me be your American man
Oh please let me be your American man
Oh please let me be your American man
Track Name: No Staying Home Tonight
You plop down on your couch
And pop the cap off a bottle
The dim light from the TV
Lulls your tired wrinkles

Oh maybe tonight's, the perfect night, to just stay home, but you know-

There's new life out the front door
The moon shines through the drapes
Your heart knows you want more
So just go out and take, take

Oh maybe tonight's, the perfect night, to meet your girl but you know-

Just try to leave it all behind
Take the deadbolt off tonight
Let the light wedge open life
There's no staying home tonight

There's no staying home tonight
There's no staying home tonight

So don't be scared of the people
It's okay I'm scared too
Home will be there waitin'
To replenish you

Oh maybe tonight's, the perfect night, for you to realize, that you know-

There's new life out the front door
The moon shines through the drapes
Your heart knows you want more
So just go out and take, take

Oh maybe tonight's, the perfect night, to meet your girl

Just try to leave it all behind
Take the deadbolt off tonight
Let the light wedge open life
There's no staying home tonight

Just try to leave it all behind
Take the deadbolt off tonight
Let the light wedge open life
There's no staying home tonight

There's no staying home tonight
There's no staying home tonight
Track Name: ...and I Have You
I never thought I'd see the day
Where life would ever look this way
The world dropped in the most unexpected
And you came in and resurrected
What are the chances we found each other?
We're two flakes lost in the stormy weather
I got hit and sunk down under
You dove and searched to recover

Do you know how much you saved me?
Do you know how much?

You point out all the good things you see
Inspired my heart set my spirit free and
You have me
Oh looking at the seasons change
I have no fear if there is pain cuz
You have me
You have me
You have me
You have me
You have me
...and I have you

I dream I can see years to come
There's already so much that we've done
Your grey hair rests upon my shoulder
We're holding hands as mother and father
I'm so ready to just start this life
A year and a half and you'll be my bride
Thank you for loving all I am
You chose me and no other man

Do you know how much you saved me?
Do you know how much?

You point out all the good things you see
Inspired my heart set my spirit free and
You have me
Oh looking at the seasons change
I have no fear if there is pain cuz
You have me
You have me
You have me
You have me
You have me
...and I have you
...and I have you
...and I have you
Track Name: The Restlessness
I'm a painting on the wall, crooked and bent
Against elaborate wall paper, jealous of it
I see no beauty I create, and believe I'm wasting frames
So I search to find some meaning, that I've already made

There's not enough dirt upon my boots
There's too few miles in my shoes
Must be too little that I have, or how much I have to lose
Too little gunk under my nail
Must send letters in the mail
Must be the things that others see, or should I live solitary?

The things that will full fill, I know fall short
But why I still push for, human nature's will
The darker side of it is clear but I still have to go
Everyone else gets their chances and I still have to go

There's not enough dirt upon my boots
There's too few miles in my shoes
Must be too little that I have, or how much I have to lose
Too little gunk under my nails
Must send letters in the mail
Must be the things that others see, or should I live solitary?

No one cares about this, it's not worth it
But I still look for something, that changes nothing
What forest needs my wet footprints? which city should I visit?
How much stuff I buy? How little can I be?

There's not enough dirt upon my boots
There's too few miles in my shoes
Must be too little that I have, or how much I have to lose
Too little gunk under my nails
Must send letters in the mail
Must be the things that others see, or should I live solitary? (1,2,3,4...)

Even as I leave, even as I wander
I know the dirt will just fall off
Even as I walk, even as explore
The shoes will tear apart
Even as I build, even as I found them
Possessions will find their guilt
Even as I give, even as I tithe them
My things won't be enough, oh but I...

Don't have enough dirt upon my boots
There's too few miles in my shoes
Must be too little that I have, or how much I have to lose
Too little gunk under my nails
Must send letters in the mail
Must be the things that others see, or should I live solitary?
Track Name: Rough Times, Times, Times, Times
Stop right there don't say no more this might be our last quiet night
This phone call is not exactly what I thought my ears would get
Delay your thoughts, your doubts, and droughts and listen to my words my dear
Tune out the world and all its screams and listen to what I mean

I want this song these simple words to guide you through the rough times
times, times, times
I want this song these simple words to guide you through the rough times
times, times, times

Stop and breathe hear what I mean and listen to my heart beat
Calm composed and now you know that we'll be fine alright
Delayed your thoughts, your doubts and droughts and now you rest peacefully
The world is soft to our talk, and now we rest in the dark

I want this song these simple words to guide you through the rough times
times, times, times
I want this song these simple words to guide you through the rough times
times, times, times

I want this song these simple words to guide you through the rough times
times, times, times
I want this song these simple words to guide you through the rough times
times, times, times

I want this song these simple words to guide you through the rough times
Track Name: Come Home To Me
Baby it's time, to come on home
Summer is here, leave school and come home
The flowers in bloom, an empty seat in this room
All signs are true, all signs point you, all signs point to you

The mountains are ours, to climb and to learn
How to grow a love, that rivals the earth
Your gorgeous face, is so far away
I'll watch for your plane, come home and stay

And I'll watch the skies, I'll wait for those eyes
To come home to me, to come home to me
Cuz something is wrong, when you are gone
So come home to me, come home to me

I'm counting the days, till we meet in this place
To see that smile, to share with you mine
To share with you mine
To share with you mine

And I'll watch the skies, I'll wait for those eyes
To come home to me, to come home to me
Cuz something is wrong, when you are gone
So come home to me, come home to me
And I'll watch the skies, I'll wait for those eyes
To come home to me, to come home to me
Cuz something is wrong, when you are gone
So come home to me, come home to me
Track Name: Seeds
The mossy road lies ahead, pack your bags for the island
Put the things back where we found, cut the ties and break new ground
Even we don't know where we will go
There's the fun don't know no plans just go

Some say this is where we leave, make no mistake we'll be back you'll see
You know the old saying recall, the apple is still close to the tree
Even we don't know where we will go
This wind calls we're seeds about to blow

So bury us down, and we will grow
So plant us now, and we will show
That like every plant, and every soul, we can spread across the world
Because everyone, no matter where you're from, has blown from home
Home
Home (has blown from home)
Home
Home

As soon as rubber hits the road, my mind will drift back to my home
But our roots have set and grown in this new ground we call our own
Even we didn't know where would go
We grew up like plants we'll reach and grow

So bury us down, and we will grow
So plant us now, and we will show
That like every plant, and every soul, we can spread across the world
Because everyone, no matter where you're from, has blown from home

Has blown from
Home
Home (has blown from home)
Home
Track Name: Glacier In My Shadow
Quiet streams run from white toes
Pace quickens as pollution grows
Sit helplessly look at fallen giants
What can one man do stop all this?

We're not so different you and I
Water betrays you and I still cry
Each year more beaten and short
Soon you'll be smaller than me at my start

Cry out pray for cold winds
Push back find your ice again
Rocks have bowed before your might
A valley carved lies in your sight

Yell your wind to make me leave
Think I'm a fraud and caused retreat
I know the weight you once carried
Cuz I'm 22 now and almost married

On my father's back I saw you first
Your longer reach and larger perch
Each year passes and brings us fear
That one day I won't find you here
Track Name: 20
Twenty years and I'm still here
Don't you worry, don't you worry
Life's not hard if we let go
Of our worry, of our worry

If stress can't find us there
Then we will show, beams of hope
Then we will show, beams of hope

Fear strikes like disease in the pain in the cold
So come to our fire, forget bout the liars
Fear strikes like disease in the pain in the cold
So come to our fire, forget bout the liars

Who fed us what we know
Told us where we couldn't go
Said that we weren't enough
And the world's just to big for us

There are days when I get scared
But I parry, I try to parry
My only hope is holding on
To a story, to the story

The story of true love,
The flame in us, the breath on our tongues
The flame in us, the breath on our tongues

It's love like warm wind that blows away the cold
So come to come our fire, forget about the liars
It's love like warm wind that blows away the cold
So come to come our fire, forget about the liars

Who fed us what we know
Told us where we couldn't go
Said that we weren't enough
And the world's just to big for us
They fed us what we know
Told us where we couldn't go
Said that we weren't enough
And the world's just to big for us

They fed us what we know
Told us where we couldn't go
Said that we weren't enough
And the world's just to big for us
They fed us what we know
Told us where we couldn't go
Said that we weren't enough
And the world's just to big for us
Track Name: Don't Say No More
Return this internal voice
Tell me now I'm a man from the boys
It's too long out in the cold air
Not a second more, of that cold dark stare
Not a second more, of that cold dark stare

I was told that I didn't care
Now I'm here with this heart that's impaired
Not a second more, of being wrong
Not a second more, that had gone too long

This is more than I can handle
This is not what we're for
Cuz you can't create, when tools are broken
And you can't repair what does not exist
And you can't create, when tools are broken
And you can't repair what does not exist

Return this internal voice
Tell me now I'm a man from the boys
It's too long out in the cold air
Not a second more, of that cold dark stare
Not a second more, of that cold dark stare

Please don't say no more
It's too much to hold
Please don't say no more
This is getting old

This is more than I can handle
This is not what we're for
Cuz you can't create, when tools are broken
And you can't repair what does not exist
And you can't create, when tools are broken
And you can't repair what does not exist
Track Name: Migration
This time of year always makes me think
That I wish I could fly over mountain peaks
See I'd fly south to a warmer place
But I'd miss this state's cold and wintry ways

With so many things that need to change
I feel like one star caught in someone's gaze
The world needs more light than I can give
Just a corner of earth is where I live

And where will things be in a thousand years?
Will seven billion be brought to tears?
Cuz we've all been waiting on bended
For something or someone to set us free

Now with this chance to relax and think
See time away isn't always peace
I miss your smile and all your ways
So I'll fly north a colder place
So I'll fly north to a warmer place
